Randy Abels: Samsung Project, Edit

Samsung did a competition in the Netherlands where they asked creative ideas to test the new phone. Randy came up with the idea to test the phones possibilities while skating the new bowl in Amsterdam.

He posted this on their facebook and they immediately responded in a positive way. All said and done he had to skate to bowl while using this new phone!

Best part is that this will be seeded on several huge site in the Netherlands what results in some good exposure for Rollerblading, and of course he went home with a new phone! Check out the movie below they produced!

This month were are bringing you another old school selection.

We are bringing you this film in AVI, M4V, MP4 and torrent. So grab whichever format you want, or download them all.

We are also throwing in a solid music selection this month. This torrent contains all three albums released by Harvey Danger, a folk-rock band that is most well-known for their song Flagpole Sitta.

Company Profile: Live Like Kings

Now I have been doing a lot of deal with people on the message boards for skates and parts, and sometimes they tend to throw in a few extras like stickers and what-not that they may have gotten at their local shop or with an online order.

The extras that I got in an order with sic (Michael Carbajal) were much better than anything I had gotten before. He sent me two shirts and a decal from his comapny Live Like Kings, which is "a clothing company that does screen printing, vinyl decals, graphic designing, graphic arts, endorsements, and promoting. We use our past 6 years of experience to take off with this brand new project."

The company, founded in 2008, makes products like shirts, stickers/decals, hats, bandanas, hoodies, and custom projects. Their mission statement is that they are "An upcoming clothing company that wants to break the mold of traditional clothing companies and move towards one simple thing. To have us and our customers Live Like Kings."

Here are a few images of the shirts that he sent me:

Razor Week at Woodward West 2011

The Razors crew headed out Woodward and came away with an edit and an article written by Aragon. Check them out on RollerNews or Be-Mag. Or just watch the edit and read the article here. Enjoy!

Razor Week at Woodward West 2011 – Edit #1 by Erick Rodriguez from Be-Mag on Vimeo.

This past week we were given the opportunity to go to Woodward West and have an official Razors Week in the mountains of Tehachapi, California. During the week Dre Powell, Julian Bah, Rachard Johnson, Erik Rodriguez and myself were all able to be in attendance. For many years the name “Woodward” has been associated with great skate parks and a summer destination for extreme athlete enthusiasts. Growing up I never had the opportunity to experience the camp aspect of Woodward, it was not until I turned pro that I was able to visit the facility and enjoy everything they had to offer.

Maybe it’s the air, the high altitude, or the fact that we had finally escaped California traffic but arriving at Woodward we were all in good spirits. We soon got to meet the in-line campers who had traveled from all over the country to come skate and improve their skills. Since becoming a professional skater it has always brought me a lot of gratification to teach kids how to improve their skating due to the fact that growing up I was taught by skaters I looked up to and I still remember how meaningful it was to me.

The majority of the week was spent skating different parks on the Woodward West Campus along with filming for some upcoming podcasts that I hope everyone enjoys! As with everything, when you're having fun the time seems to fly by and next thing we knew it was the end of the week. I can speak for everyone when I say that we had an awesome group of campers and that we all learned something new while we were there. I am already looking forward to the next time I get to return to Woodward West and forget about everything else and just skate!

Big shout out to Pam & Ritchie Velasquez along with all the staff at Woodward West for treating the whole Razors team like we were family!

Video Review: Nature Skate 'The Traveler' (2002)

Since I've been hurt, the only connections I can keep with rolling are through tinkering with my skates, posting here and on the message boards, or watching videos.

That being said, here is the first what should be a string of video reviews dropping here at Skate Sessions.

The Traveler is a classic East Coast skate film from Nature Skate Videos, which was the video company started by Hakeem Jimoh and Brian Lewis (now co-owners of Create Originals frames with Billy O'Neil).

Put out in 2002, the video followed Jimoh, Lewis and a crew of rollers up and down the East Coast, hitting some serious skate spots and getting sick footage along the way.

The video includes footage from Boston, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York (NSS Comp), New York City, White Plains NY, Pennsylvania, Baltimore MD, Greensboro NC, and Washington DC.

Aiden Charles, Jeremey Pennacchini, Billy O'Neil, Mike Canoles, and Dustin Halleran all have profile sections in the 1 hour 11 minute video that also includes clips from Boschi Pope,  Jeff Dalnas, Mike Johnson, Chris Cheshire, Gabe Holm, Sean Kelso, and Alex Broskow.

The star of the video is definately Halleran, who tears up ever spot that the crew rolls into. Here is his section from the video, in case you can't get your hands on a hard copy (since I have mine on VHS I don't think there are many of them out there).

Brian Lewis spoke with Be-Mag back in '02 when the video first came out, and he told them:
This video was really fun to make not only because it was the video that we wanted to make from the start back in '99 but also because we went on the road with our boys for 3 weeks. We had so much fun on tour that we're doing it again this year except there are 2 more people going on the tour at present and it's going to be for an entire month. We have also added a few more cities and states to the list. But, our next video is Maintain. Maintain is going to be done in a different style then you've seen us do yet. We just started shooting for Maintain because of the weather and allready we have footage that is so ill; for example: Alex Nunez does 360 to makio on a 15 stair rail with a drop off and two skaters from Knoxville then grinding off an ill roof. But for now I hope you guys all enjoy The Traveler cause we deff had a great time making it. To everybody that was in it or helped to make it happen in any way, thank you all, I'll never forget the time I had.

Carbon 2 Review (by Max Pilet)

Review done by MaXx on the AMall forums

Okay this is for all the people who want to buy carbons but are not sure about dropping 350$ for boots only…

I have been skating these babies for almost 4 months now and I got a good idea of the skates overall.

First Day

After 1 Session

They came in the mail, looked fresh as fuck. Size 10.5 looked a bit fatter than the 10.5 Deshi Carbons. Still looked smaller and felt lighter than most skates out there.

Started trying them in the house and the little USD logo on the back of the cuff fell down. Even worse quality than on thrones, no biggie but still…

Started skating them. Felt awesome. When they are laced tight, you have such solid control of what your feet are doing, it's awesome and you'll never have this feeling in any other skates. Like most Deshi Carbons skaters, I had the issue with the overwhelming flex. After awhile, you could break your ankle on nothing due to the skates getting super floppy.

On the Carbon II, they fixed this with the cuffs. Pretty much same stuff as a USD throne cuff with a small v-cut. Anyhow, the flex is really good thanks to these cuffs. You can still really bend without having too much of that flex.

2-3 sessions in, metal buckle fucks up from falling on it a couple times. Metal part between the actual buckle and the cuff bends but I managed to bend it back normal. Phew.

Honestly, I really love these skates but for the price, I'm kinda disappointed. Deshi Carbons material was way better in my opinion. On the IIs, part of the stitching near the toe started going off and I feel it's going to be pretty easy for the rest to fall apart next.

Also, like LUD mentioned on here, the gap between the cuffs and the carbon part on the back is pretty strange not being symmetric from one boot to another and the strap receptor are garbage… You miss a couple soul tricks and it's goodbye. They'll be fucked up open and you barely can't take off the strap after that because it's stuck in.

Also, honestly, the straps are pure shit. Started falling part, took them off, then put them back on and the Velcro came right off...

After About 2 Months

After About 3.5 Months

I had a pressure point on my left foot at first after skating for more than 30 minutes but heat molding them was a miracle. They felt perfect afterwards and snugger on my feet (in a good way).

The new tongue is also super nice. Doesn't shift AT ALL compared to the USD Carbon 1 and is super soft so it'll never dig up in your shins.

Soulplates are the same, still super good and slides nice.

I said up here that the material was cheaper than the Deshis in my opinion but they are still super good materials. They hold up pretty good. I just felt like my Deshi held up better. Anyway, I think that after four months of skating and falling on them alot, they still look super fresh.

So if you want a nice skate which feels lighter than an average boot, feels really like a sneaker. That will hold up good even if you're shredding hard... cop some Carbon 2s, set them up with some nice Creates or Kizers and Voilà!
If you have any question on these skates, feel free to ask :-)

Girls Can Roll! Here's The Proof...

Here's something for all the girls out there who want someone to look up to. This is a little collection of edits that I have put together over the past couple of months, and all of these girls can really shred.

Hope you all enjoy,
